Basic Life Support (BLS) / HCP

Basic Life Support (BLS) Training

As of January 2019, Canadian Red Cross training affiliates, such as ABC CPR, have transitioned to providing Basic Life Support (BLS) courses, updating and replacing the previous Healthcare Provider (HCP) courses. This change reflects a commitment to offering the most current and relevant training, with BLS representing a comprehensive update to the earlier HCP curriculum.

This specialized course is designed as a 4-hour, stand-alone session, distinct from the general public Standard First Aid classes currently available. For those in need of both Standard First Aid and BLS certification, ABC CPR encourages arranging a private group session (requiring a minimum of twelve participants).

THE TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is particularly suited for on-site healthcare providers, encompassing various professionals from nursing staff and care aides to medical and dental practitioners. Engaging in this training ensures that healthcare workers are adept at performing vital life-saving actions promptly and efficiently, thereby improving patient care and safety.

The primary goal of the BLS training is to empower healthcare teams to act swiftly and cohesively in emergency situations, enhancing their ability to save lives and positively affect health outcomes in their professional settings.
